Punjab’s Free WiFi project: 50 spots in Lahore

The revolutionary plan of providing free WiFi connections at 50 strategic spots around Lahore has been launched by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif. This large-scale pilot project is a critical step towards creating a more interconnected society by attempting to transform municipal internet access.
CM Maryam Nawaz tweeted, “Free WiFi started at the following (50 spots) in Lahore,” expressing her delight with the deployment of the service at the selected spots and her commitment to keeping her word. The remainder of Lahore is also being completed. Praise be to God! We deliver on what we say we will.”
During a high-level meeting last month, the Chief Minister and representatives from the Punjab Safe Cities Authority (PSCA) decided to launch the free WiFi pilot project. PSCA has been assigned the responsibility of updating the current infrastructure, which includes hotspots, as part of this endeavour to guarantee uninterrupted internet access.
The Punjab Safe Cities Authority, led by CM Maryam Nawaz, has been tasked with giving priority to the installation of free WiFi connections in strategic locations such bus stops, airports, train stations, and educational institutions. An estimated 516 places in Lahore are expected to gain from this revolutionary project, significantly increasing inhabitants’ access to the internet.
This programme represents a notable resurgence of the free WiFi services that were first implemented by the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) administration in 2013. But due to some unknown circumstances services were discontinued. However, under CM Maryam Nawaz’s administration, the vital service has been restored and enhanced, giving people access to connectivity.
